Teen Program

Since the summer of 2021, Brooklyn Children’s Museum has run the Teen Curators Program, a 9-week program where teens explore legacies of power that construct museum spaces and imagine new ways of relating to, engaging with and telling stories through art. Through this experiential program, teens gain behind-the-scenes exposure and hands-on experience in the exhibit development process, including collections handling, registration and cataloging, and object research and interpretation. Participants learn about curation with artwork, historical objects, and oral history narratives, and actively engage the questions: how is history presented, who makes the decisions about presentation and representation, and who holds the power?

Fall Semester 2024

The Teen Program’s fall semester runs from October 7 to December 15. The program consists of in-person meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm and two hours of remote work on a weekly basis. Teens receive a stipend of $750 before tax. Applications open on Friday, September 6 and close Sunday, September 22, with priority for earlier applications.
