Brooklyn Children's Museum is pleased to announce a new summer series celebrating literacy and the creative spirit!
The Penguin Young Readers Series will complement our public programs this summer as a dynamic line-up of leading children’s authors and illustrators visit the Museum’s own library.

NEW WEEKEND Sensory Room Family Hours

Over, under, swing, and rock as you explore our newest space at BCM. Unlock doors on our Sensory Snake or relax and read on our fluff chair mountain. This is an inclusive space that engages children of all abilities. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Space is limited; availability on first come, first served basis.

Party down with R2D2, the oldest Eastern Box Turtle in New York, as he celebrates his 60th birthday. Meet his live animal friends and feed him fresh veggies from the Museum Garden.

Celebrate your freedom at the end of the school year by releasing hundreds of ladybugs into our Garden!
Let’s Celebrate, Haiti!

What would you eat if you lived in a place surrounded by water? What would you wear? Dive into the culture of Haiti by discovering unique art forms such as drapo flags. Create a hanging craft inspired by traditional Haitian art.
Blooming Babies: Let’s Celebrate, Panama!

Explore the culture and natural environment of Panama by hearing stories about the famous Panamanian golden frog. Listen to enchanting Panamanian music while creating a golden frog puppet to take home.

Let your imagination soar to new heights while you explore a unique assortment of blocks to play with. Build an imaginary castle with foam blocks, map out a new neighborhood with wooded ones, or use cardboard blocks to create whimsical patterns.

Send your taste buds on a delightful trip to Jamaica! Explore the rich culture of this island nation by sampling yummy Jamaican buns, desserts and snacks. Practice chewing sweet sugar cane! Then, wash it all down by making some fizzy Jamaican punch to share with your friends and family.

Cultural Connections Performance: Dances and Folklore of Japan (Okinawa)

Japanese traditional dancer and folk singer Junko Fisher offers a program of Okinawan-style traditional dance and folk songs, accompanied by the traditional instrument called Sanshin (a three-stringed lute). Junko's interactive session includes a brief history of Japanese traditional dance and music, as well as teaching folk dances to participants. East Meets West: The Shakuhachi Flute and Dragon Trumpet with Aaron Shragge

Aaron Ryuko Shragge will present an interactive performance of traditional and original music for Zen meditation on the shakuhachi as well as on the new instrument—the Dragon Mouth Trumpet. Cultural Connections Performance supported by The Tiger Baron Foundation
ECO BOYS AND GIRLS Book Reading
June 15, 12:00 – 2:00 pm | Ages 3-10 yrs
ECO BOYS AND GIRLS Books is a six volume series focusing on environmental education. The 5 animated characters engage youth and families to be aware of, involved with and connected to each other and the earth and to empower them to take ownership of our planet, learn about the environment and explore creative new ways to live in harmony. An animated introduction to the characters will be followed by a book reading and activities.
Summer Penguin Young Readers Series
Sunday, June 16th
Don’t miss this family-friendly reading series with a diverse lineup of award-winning authors! The Reading Series is geared towards school aged children, but the whole family is welcome. No registration required. A total of 5 readings will be held from June 16th through August 4th, free with the purchase of admission:

Superhero Day: Capes, Masks & Tights!? Oh My!

Calling all super-powered crime fighters for our 2nd annual Superhero Day! Fly, swing, or teleport on over for an action-packed day of programs, activities, and more all geared around some of your favorite superheroes. Celebrate Superman’s birthday by making your own cape, learn the science behind web-slinging with Spiderman, and hone your detective skills Batman-style! Kids who come dressed as their favorite courageous character will get $2 off admission!

The Joy of Indian Dance and Culture

Delight in the folk and classical dance rhythms of North India as Ayona Bhaduri, former dance resident of the illustrious Nrityagram Dance Village in India, takes you on a fun-filled journey via a live performance and joyful family workshop. With the use of colorful scarves, children will explore exciting movements, sounds, and creative spatial patterns. This event also features the option of having the application of mehndi designs (the art of hand painting with henna) courtesy of Mehndi NYC. DanceFest INDIA! is made possible in part by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.
